It appears with the latest NHL lockout that the league cares less about the fans than originally thought. Only 8 years removed from the previous lockout which saw an entire season obliterated, it also marks the third lockout since the almighty Gary Bettman began running this three ring circus.
Regardless of who deserves the blame, at its most basic, as usual with lockouts/strikes the fans are the ones left holding the bag. If this lockout continues without any end in sight, its highly possible the NHL will never recover. It hasn’t fully recovered from the last lockout, this only pushes hockey further down the lists of sports fans. It’s a damn shame, however you try to twist it. Let us not forget Donald Fehr heads up the players association, you may remember him as the man who led the MLB players through their work stoppage in the 90s. From a fans perspective, we are watching two men who care about nothing or nobody other than themselves and are willing to let this drag out until doomsday as long as they feel 150% satisfied with the results. These negotiations will never lead to satisfaction on any of the three fronts (owners, players, fans), so where exactly is the imaginary finish line? Your guess is as good as mine.
